Counseling

What Does Counseling Look Like?
While you may have an idea of what therapy looks like based on tv and movies, in reality, it can look a little different. (And no, you do not need to lie on a couch for therapy to work.) Psychotherapy, counseling, therapy are all terms used interchangeably to describe the process of working with a trained professional to address mental health conditions or emotional challenges. Typically, an appointment will last 50-55 minutes, and you will work with your therapist to determine the frequency that is right for your presenting concerns and schedule.

Your therapist will meet with you for an initial assessment to better understand what is bringing you to therapy and how we can help. Then, your provider will help you navigate a path to develop greater self-understanding, find relief from ineffective patterns of behavior, and develop tools to cope with the stressors of life.

Counseling

Our office provides therapy utilizing both in-person and telehealth sessions. For an in-person session, you will meet with one of our therapists in our warm, welcoming environment. We strive to create a safe space for you to talk through whatever is bringing you to therapy. In addition, we also offer telehealth sessions. A major benefit of telehealth is that you can meet with your therapist through a secure video platform from the comfort of your home or the convenience of another private space. Telehealth is wonderful for busy professionals who may want to eliminate a commute and engage in therapy over a lunch break. It is also a great option for parents and caregivers who would otherwise need to arrange babysitters to participate in therapy. It is important to note that the client must still be physically located within our therapists’ licensure jurisdiction to participate in therapy sessions. For most of our therapists, that means that the client will need to be in Ohio at the time of the session.
